This lesson helps English speakers learn how to communicate in French at a pharmacy. You will learn vocabulary, useful sentences, and a dialogue. 1. Important Vocabulary: Mal de tête → headache Mal au ventre → stomach ache Mal de dent → toothache Mal de dos → backache Mal à la gorge → sore throat Nez qui coule → runny nose Nez bouché → blocked nose Toux (sèche / grasse) → cough (dry / chesty) Fièvre → fever Vertiges → dizziness Nausée → nausea Diarrhée → diarrhoea Constipation → constipation Éruption cutanée → rash Allergie → allergy Démangeaisons → itching Enflure → swelling

2. Useful sentences for the client: "J'ai mal à la tête." → I have a headache. "J'ai mal à la gorge." → I have a sore throat. "J'ai de la fièvre." → I have a fever. "Je me sens étourdi." → I feel dizzy. "Je me sens faible." → I feel weak. "Je crois que j'ai une intoxication alimentaire." → I think I have food poisoning. "J'ai besoin de quelque chose contre le mal des transports." → I need something for travel sickness. "Pouvez-vous me donner quelque chose pour m'aider à dormir ?" → Can you give me something to help me sleep? "Avez-vous quelque chose contre les piqûres d'insectes ?" → Do you have something for insect bites?
To ask about the medicine: "Comment dois-je prendre ce médicament ?" → How should I take this medicine? "Avec ou sans nourriture ?" → With or without food? "Y a-t-il des effets secondaires ?" → Are there any side effects? "Les enfants peuvent-ils le prendre ?" → Can children take it? "Y a-t-il une alternative moins chère ?" → Is there a cheaper alternative?
3. Useful sentences for the pharmacist: "Prenez un comprimé deux fois par jour après les repas." → Take one tablet twice a day after meals. "Ne prenez pas ce médicament à jeun." → Do not take this medicine on an empty stomach. "Ce médicament peut provoquer de la somnolence." → This medicine may cause drowsiness. "Conservez-le dans un endroit frais et sec." → Keep it in a cool, dry place. "Ce médicament est uniquement pour usage externe." → This medicine is for external use only. "Vous n'avez pas besoin d'ordonnance pour ce médicament." → You do not need a prescription for this medicine. "Ce médicament est uniquement disponible sur ordonnance." → This medicine is only available with a prescription.
4. Example dialogue: 👩 Client: Bonjour, j'ai mal au ventre. → Hello, I have a stomach ache.
5. Practical expressions to remember: "Je cherche..." → I am looking for... "J'ai besoin de quelque chose pour..." → I need something for... "Pouvez-vous me recommander... ?" → Can you recommend...?
