Conjugaison au 3e groupe-tous les temps
1st group:
These are all verbs ending in -ER (except aller, which is irregular).
Example: chanter (to sing), aimer (to love), marcher (to walk), danser (to dance).
Regular conjugation in the present tense:
Je chante → I sing
Tu chantes → You sing
Il chante → He sings
Nous chantons → We sing
Vous chantez → You (pl.) sing
Ils chantent → They sing
2nd group:
These are verbs ending in -IR that use the -issons ending in the present tense for the first person plural (nous).
Example: finir (to finish), grandir (to grow), choisir (to choose), réussir (to succeed).
Regular conjugation in the present tense:
Je finis → I finish
Tu finis → You finish
Il finit → He finishes
Nous finissons → We finish
Vous finissez → You (pl.) finish
Ils finissent → They finish
3rd group:
All other verbs, which are irregular:
-IR verbs that do not use "-issons" (e.g., partir (to leave), dormir (to sleep), courir (to run)).
-OIR verbs (e.g., voir (to see), recevoir (to receive), vouloir (to want)).
-RE verbs (e.g., prendre (to take), mettre (to put), vendre (to sell)).
And the two auxiliary verbs: être (to be) and avoir (to have).
Examples: aller (to go), faire (to do/make), lire (to read), peindre (to paint), prendre (to take), être (to be), avoir (to have).
All the verbs in the exercise belong to the 3rd group because they are either irregular, end in -OIR or -RE, or are auxiliary verbs.
