    In French, words for "speech" or "talk" change depending on the situation and the purpose (to chat, to honor, to defend, to accuse, etc.).

    👉 For example: In a court, a lawyer's speech will be called either a plaidoirie (defense speech) or a réquisitoire (prosecution speech), depending on whether the lawyer is defending or accusing.

    Here is a list of useful French words with their meanings and synonyms:



    - Allocution: a short speech given by an important person at a specific moment.

    - Apostrophe: a sharp or sudden address to someone (like calling someone out).

    - Blâme: disapproval, often an official reprimand or disciplinary sanction. Synonym: réprimande.

    - Commérage: gossip, usually negative talk about others. Synonyms: bavardage, potin, ragot, cancan.

    - Compliment: kind, flattering words to congratulate or praise someone. Synonyms: félicitations, louange.

    - Conciliabule: a whispered or secret conversation. Synonym: chuchotement.

    - Pamphlet: a short satirical text that attacks institutions or government figures. Synonyms: diatribe, satire, libelle.

    - Plaidoyer: a speech to defend a person, an idea, or a cause. Synonyms: apologie, justification.

    - Réquisitoire: a speech listing someone's faults or crimes, especially by the prosecution in court.

    - Rodomontade: boastful, exaggerated talk. Synonyms: fanfaronnade, vantardise.

    - Sarcasme: ironic or cutting remarks. Synonyms: quolibet, raillerie, moquerie.

    - Sermon: a speech by a preacher; also any moralizing lecture. Synonym: prêche.
