LES ADJECTIFS DÉMONSTRATIFS
Demonstrative adjectives
Demonstrative adjectives point out a certain person or thing.
In English, the demonstrative adjectives are this, that, these, and those.
In French, they are:
CE for masculine singular nouns
ce blouson
ce hérisson
ce manteau
ce garçon

CET for masculine singular nouns beginning with a vowel sound
cet homme
cet imperméable
cet animal

CETTE for feminine singular nouns
cette maison
cette école
cette femme

CES for plural nouns regardless of gender
ces garçons
ces animaux
ces femmes
ces écoles
As you can see, demonstrative adjectives in French must agree in GENDER and in NUMBER with the noun they modify.
In French, the distinction between this and that is optional; it is only made when absolutely necessary.
The tags -CI and -LÀ are put after the noun when a distinction needs to be made.
Cette voiture-ci est rouge. (This car is red.)
Cette voiture-là est bleue. (That car is blue.)
