    The imperfect




    A/ The verbs can be divided into three main groups according to the ending

    of their Infinitive or Present Perfect form:

     

            => 1st Group: verbs in ER like “ aimer” , they represent about 90% of all French verbs

     

    =>2nd Group: verbs in IR like “ finir” whose Present Perfect form is “ISSANT” and Present indicative form is “IS”

     

    => 3rd Group: all the other verbs in “IR” whose Present Perfect form ends in” ANT”

     

    NB: this 3rd Group includes, around 30 verbs in “ OIR” like 'recevoir', a hundred in “ RE” . In this group, you’ll find irregular verbs and exceptions

     

    B/To conjugate those verbs, you must analyse their root:
