    Problem with -have !
    Message de aure13007 posté le 15-11-2008 à 17:35:54 (S | E | F)

    Bonjour,
Voila, je voulais savoir si il y avait réellement une différence entre ces deux phrases :
Celle là se dit : "I don't have enought time"
Celle ci, je ne sais pas, et c'est mon problème "I have not enought time".

Je voulais savoir pourquoi on ne pourrais pas ici utiliser seulement la forme de négative de Have. Cela a un rapport avec la possession ? un modal !?

Merci de votre aide, je sais que cette question peut sembler stupide, mais cela me gêne de temps en temps.
    Merci !

"have not" n'est pas correct ici

    PS: "enough" sans "t"

    hello,

the verb "have" has two meanings
    1. Possession
    2. Action

When it comes to possession in British English the form "have got" is used, in negative
    I haven't got a car.

In American English the form I don't have a car is used, and questions are built this way:
    Do you have a car?

When have expresses possession, you can't use a continuous form "having".

Ad. 2 There are many expressions where "have" expresses action, e.g
    have breakfast/ lunch/dinner
    have a shower/ a cup of tea
    have fun
    have a great time
    have an opportunity
    have rest

and so on. In such cases you can ask questions only with DO
what time do you have breakfast?
how many times a day do you have a shower?

In such cases you can also use a continuous form "having"
Call me later, we're having dinner now.

    Take care
    Inga
